Split cell or open top box culverts have many benefits over typical single cell box culverts. Split cell culverts are poured with a bell section cast into each wall making a matching top and bottom. The 2 piece design of a split cell box culvert reduces the overall weight of each piece. This allows easy installation using smaller cranes, or even excavators. Open top box culverts are cast as a 3 sided box culvert with a removable top slab. The removable top slab or top section also allows for easy placement of natural stone fill along the bottom of the culvert run.

Split Cell Precast Box Culverts are ideal for situations where site conditions demand wide, shallow conduits to handle required flows, as well as:

  • Jobsites that require placement with excavators, or where large cranes don’t have proper access.
  • Installations where round concrete pipe cannot provide adequate flow capacity
  • As a faster and stronger substitute for cast-in-place box culverts, long-span metal arches, or multibarrel circular culverts
